Bangladesh Crisis: 11 Bangladeshi nationals were detained while trying to infiltrate into India through West Bengal, Tripura, and Meghalaya borders by the Border Security Force (BSF), a statement stated on Sunday. The current political crisis in Dhaka has culminated into a refugee crisis with many Bangladeshi nationals trying to cross over the border into India in a bid to flee the violence-marred country.

The latest action by the BSF came after it thwarted many earlier attempts by the nationals of the neighbouring country to cross the border in West Bengal, Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya. The security agency has also amped up vigil at the border.

On August 5, Bangladesh witnessed the ouster of the democratically elected government of Sheikh Hasina after months of civil unrest which stemmed out of student's "anti-quota" protests. Hasina fled to India to safety while a new interim government was installed in the country.

Amid the concerns of the refugee influx, the Odisha government on Sunday said that it would soon initiate the process of identifying the Bangladeshi nationals coming to the state from West Bengal. Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan highlighted the need to identify the identities as a lot of Bangladeshis are coming to India.

"A lot of people are coming to our nation and Odisha through West Bengal. The process to verify the identities of Bangladeshi nationals who are coming to Odisha will start very soon. We have already alerted our coastal security," Harichandan told reporters.

He further stated, "The Odisha CM has also reviewed the situation. All the marine police stations have been sensitised after the political turmoil in Bangladesh."
