Bangladesh Hindus Attacked:  Protesting against the targeted attacks on minorities in Bangladesh, hundreds of Bangladeshi Hindus took to the streets in Dhaka on Friday, raising slogans and lodging discontent over the persecution after the ouster of Sheikh Hasina's government. The protestors peacefully blocked a city intersection while chanting slogans such as "Who are we? Bengali, Bengali,", carrying placards with demands of "save Bangladesh Hindus".

The protests erupted in response to the targeted attacks on Hindu temples, businesses and households. While many Hindu leaders associated with Sheikh Hasina's party were killed in targeted mob violence, Hindu girls and women were reportedly raped.

Awami League Calls For Protection Of Hindus

The party in shambles after a forced takeover of power by the Islamist-backed protests, Sheikh Hasina's Awami League called for the protection of Hindus and other minorities in the country. Notably, among 180 million Bangladeshis, Hindus constitute around 7 per cent of the population.

"#Bangladesh #Hindus have taken to the streets in #Shahbagh #Dhaka to protest the attacks on their person, properties, and places of worship since Aug 5," Awami League said in a post on X.

Earlier today, an interim government was sworn in in Bangladesh with Nobel prize winner Muhammad Yunus as the head of the government.

PM Modi Calls For Safety Of Minority Hindus

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his best wishes to Yunus and expressed his hope for a quick return to normalcy and the safety of Hindus and other minority communities in the country.

“My best wishes to Professor Muhammad Yunus on the assumption of his new responsibilities. We hope for an early return to normalcy, ensuring the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities,” Modi in a post on X. “India remains committed to working with Bangladesh to fulfil the shared aspirations of both our peoples for peace, security and development,” he said.
