Delhi Weather: Amid the rapidly changing weather, February this year has broken the heat record of the last three years. According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the average maximum temperature for February this year was 26.9 degrees Celsius, making it the third hottest February between 2011 and 2025.
Looking at the data, only two Februarys have been warmer since 2011. The average maximum temperature was 28.2 degrees Celsius in 2023, and 27.6 degrees Celsius in 2021. This month's average maximum temperature was 26.9 degrees Celsius, which is well above normal.
97 Per Cent Reduction In Rain
A major reason for warmer conditions this month was the significant lack of rainfall. Compared to the typical 21.3 mm of rain in February, this year only 0.5 mm of rain fell, which is 97 per cent less than normal. Friday was the hottest day of the season, with the temperature reaching 31.9 degrees Celsius, 5.8 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature was 13.1 degrees Celsius, 0.6 degrees above normal. Humidity levels ranged from 87 to 23 per cent.
Strong Winds To Bring Some Relief In March First Week
According to IMD's forecast, strong winds with speeds of 15 to 25 kmph are expected between March 1 and 5. Although sunshine will keep temperatures between 30 and 35 degrees, winds will prevent them from rising too quickly. Clear skies are expected on Saturday. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 31 degrees, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 14 degrees.
How Was February’s AQI
Air quality level has worsened this February, with the month’s average AQI reaching 232 so far, the highest recorded since 2023, when it touched 237. February’s average AQI was lower in recent years. It recorded 214 in 2025 and 218 in 2024, 225 in 2022, a significantly higher 288 in 2021, and 241 in 2020.
