Delhi SIR: The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer has started preparing for the electoral roll revision in the national capital after receiving instructions from the Election Commission to complete the verification drive by October 26, 2025. While providing details, the officials stated that the residents will be asked to check their names in the 2002 voters list for the verification. They further stated that the 2002 voter list has been uploaded on the website to provide convenience to the voters. The poll body has asked every state and union territory to complete the SIR of the voters list by October 26.
The Delhi CEO stated that the voters have been asked to check their names in the 2002 voters list to avoid any inconveniences. "This will be helpful during house-to-house visits to collect required documents," the CEO was quoted as saying by NDTV. The officials also stated that the voters can submit proof of identity if their name does not appear on the list. The authority also stated that the assembly constituencies have been mapped according to 2002.
They further stated that the move will assist the voters who have shifted their residence in the last two decades. The authority stated that the national capital has nearly 83.4 lakh male and 71.74 lakh female voters. A massive controversy sparked after the poll body conducted voter list revision in Bihar after the political parties claimed that the EC was trying to remove the names of the people belonging to the marginalised section of the society.
However, the Election Commission stated that the revision was being done as per the rules and regulations, adding that there was not any conspiracy behind the process. The Supreme Court has also asked the poll body to consider the Aadhaar Card along with the other 11 documents in the voter list revision.
