Hyderabad News: A Hyderabad woman has approached police claiming that her NRI husband, a police officer in Chicago, abandoned her in India while taking her passport, green card and personal jewellery. The complaint was filed at Panjagutta Police Station, mentioning the alleged harassment and legal troubles she is now facing.

The woman, identified as Hana Ahmed Khan, married Mohammed Zainuddin Khan, a US-based police officer, in June 2022. Soon after the marriage, the husband returned to the US and did not take steps to reunite with her for nearly two years. Hana travelled to Chicago in February 2024 after her visa was processed, but she alleged that she faced emotional abuse, mental harassment and physical mistreatment during her stay.

She also claimed that her husband pressured her to initiate divorce proceedings, which she refused.

Return To India And Alleged Abandonment

In February 2025, the husband suggested a family visit to India under the pretext of performing Umrah. The couple checked into Park Hotel, Somajiguda. During her visit to her parents, Hana alleged that her husband left the hotel with all her belongings, including her passport, green card and jewellery and returned to the US. Efforts to contact him for six months reportedly went unanswered.

Attempts For Legal Help

Hana said she approached the US consulate in Hyderabad to seek assistance, but was denied entry and emails sent for help remained unanswered. “I am in a state of distress and humiliation, left stranded in India without legal documents or the means to return to the US,” she stated in her complaint, seeking intervention from Indian authorities.

Political Attention

The case gained wider attention after Telangana-based Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan highlighted it, urging the Centre to coordinate with US authorities and assist the woman in taking legal action. Khan described the incident as premeditated, alleging the husband orchestrated the entire sequence to abandon Hana and take her documents and valuables.

Authorities in Hyderabad have registered the complaint and investigations are ongoing to verify the claims and provide support to the woman.
