Delhi News: The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is set to introduce an app designed to monitor its fleet of electric buses, following the successful awarding of a tender a few months ago. A selected company will begin its work from October 1.

This innovative system is expected to integrate with the One Delhi App in the future, allowing passengers to access real-time information about bus arrivals at their stops. Users will be able to track which buses are scheduled and when they are expected to arrive, enhancing their travel experience.

In addition to passenger updates, DTC officials will receive detailed reports on bus departures from depots, as well as data on passenger boarding and disembarking at bus stops. The system will also help identify drivers who fail to stop at designated stops, ensuring compliance with regulations.

The electric buses in DTC’s fleet operate under a kilometre-based payment scheme, where private companies provide the buses and are compensated based on the distance travelled. Effective monitoring is crucial to ensure smooth operations and manage potential issues between DTC and the private operators.

Key aspects of the monitoring system will include tracking bus departure times, travel durations, arrival back at the depot and any rule violations. The app will automate the process of issuing fines to companies for any infractions, facilitating a more efficient enforcement of regulations.

Currently, DTC has a fleet of 1,600 electric buses, with plans to expand this number in the future. The corporation is prioritising the implementation of this monitoring system to improve service quality.

Siddharth Jain, the director of QT Loads Tech and Transit Company, which has been awarded the monitoring contract, confirmed that work will commence on October 1. He also mentioned that software is in development for this purpose, with plans to connect it to the One Delhi App, further enhancing the flow of information to passengers about bus movements.
