Delhi is all set to launch India's first e-waste eco park in Holambi Kalan. This initiative will revolutionize how the country manages electronic waste. Covering almost 11.4 acres with a capacity to process 51,000 metric tonnes of e-waste each year, the e-waste eco park will aim at sustainable growth. It will also include the 106 categories mentioned in the E-Waste Management Rules, 2022. The facility is expected to generate Rs 350 crore in revenue.
E-Waste Eco Park Details
The e-waste eco park has a capital investment of Rs 150 crore with an operational budget of more than Rs 325 crore. The cutting-edge system will work towards responsible waste management and recycling.
The entire construction of the e-waste eco park is likely to be completed in 18 months. Once functional, it is expected to manage almost 25 per cent of Delhi's e-waste.
"This isn't just about managing waste, it's a testament to Delhi's dedication to a circular economy where every resource counts, and every worker matters," Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, as quoted by an NDTV report.
"The days of careless dumping are behind us. We're focused on making Delhi ready for the future industrially, environmentally, and socially,” the minister added.
The e-waste eco park will be made under the DBFOT (Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Transfer) model with a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework. A global RFQ-cum-RFP tender will be issued for the park by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), as per an NDTV report.
