Delhi News: Delhi authorities have selected 12 routes across the city for infrastructure revamp due to recurring traffic snarls on these roads. The initiative is a part of a bigger strategy by the Delhi traffic police, the Public Works Department (PWD), and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) together, and it will follow earlier work on National Highway 48, the Times of India reported.
In the current Phase, authorities are particularly focusing on the critical route connecting Ring Road, Safdarjung Hospital and Dhaula Kuan. The often often gets block and persistently face congestion issue.
The city has identified several areas with traffic issues and plans to improve them. Here's a breakdown by region:
- Central Delhi:
- Ring Road (Mangi Bridge to Majnu Ka Tila)
- Rani Jhansi Road (Panchkuian to Filmistan)
- North Delhi:
- GTK Road (near Azadpur Mandi)
- Libaspur underpass
- East Delhi:
- Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg (Anand Vihar)
- Pushta Road
- South Delhi:
- Outer Ring Road (IIT Flyover to Modi Mill Flyover)
- MG Road (Andheria Mor to Aaya Nagar border)
- West Delhi:
- Shivaji Marg (Zakhira to Dwarka Mor)
- Rohtak Road (Zakhira Flyover to Mundka Metro Station)
- New Delhi:
- NH-48 (Rao Tula Ram Marg to Shiv Murti)
- Ring Road (Safdarjung Hospital to Dhaula Kuan)
A major bottleneck near the AIIMS loop could be improved by increasing the width of the road by 5–6 feet, utilising the extra space available on the left side. For Pedestrian safety, Officials have proposed installing cement or iron barriers to prevent jaywalking, as it has also emerged as a concern. The footpath outside Safdarjung Hospital lacks protective railings.
Authorities have recommended new overhead and road-level signs as poor road signage creates confusion for drivers on key routes like the AIIMS loop and Barapullah/INA flyovers.
Narrow roads at Raj Nagar, Hyatt, and Moti Bagh are also points of concern. Concerned authorities have suggested repainting zebra crossings and stop lines, along with structural improvements.
Road patches, missing verge railings, and waterlogging during rains near Durgabai Deshmukh metro station and others have also been reported.
