Ramjas College Scandal: Delhi University (DU)'s Ramjas College is enmeshed in scandal as allegations of molestation surfaced against a professor. This development has sparked student discontent, with the college management accused of inaction despite several previous complaints. Several student organisations denounced the administration's refusal to address the issue, urging immediate and open action.
The accused professor allegedly holds significant authority as the warden of the girls' hostel and head of the teachers’ association.
The incident occurred on December 2. The B Com student alleged that while going to the metro in a rickshaw outside the campus, a professor from the commerce department accompanied her. Later, he followed her and offered her a coffee.
Following this, he attempted to molest her. She went home because she was afraid of the whole situation. Later, she told her classmates about this. On December 20, she informed ICC officials about this.
On December 23, he filed his objection by mailing a written complaint to the ICC. The students are outraged by the situation. They met with Principal Prof Ajay Arora on Tuesday and demanded action.
Some students also held a sit-in protest in front of the principal's office. The professor accused of the claims has stated that all of the allegations are untrue and politically motivated. The professor stated that he had been teaching for twenty years.
"I serve as an officer in the Dean's Student Welfare Office. Every student is like a child to me. This is done to trap them. CCTV footage from the incident location can be reviewed," he said.
Principal Ajay Arora stated that as soon as the incident was brought to his attention, he asked the student to file a complaint with the ICC. The complaint was also sent by the student.
The ICC will now make a decision based on the findings of the investigation and proceed with it. According to the rules, the lecturer has been temporarily suspended.
