Delhi Water Bill Waiver: In a significant move ahead of the upcoming festive season, the Delhi government unveiled a water bill amnesty waiver scheme on Tuesday. Under this scheme, domestic consumers will receive full or partial waivers on late payment surcharges, providing much-needed relief to households.
Describing it as a “Diwali gift for the people,” Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that this scheme aims to reduce the financial burden on hundreds of households grappling with rising water bills.
Details About Delhi Water Bill Waiver Scheme
- Under the Delhi Water Bill Waiver scheme, domestic consumers who settle their outstanding water bills by January 31, 2026, will receive a 100 per cent waiver on the Late Payment Surcharge (LPSC).
- Additionally, domestic consumers who make payments between February 1 and March 31, 2026, will still receive a 70 per cent waiver on the Late Payment Surcharge (LPSC). This water bill waiver scheme would write off nearly Rs 11,000 crore in surcharges.
- Water Minister Parvesh Verma said, “This is a one-time offer. We won’t launch such schemes in the future. People should avail themselves of the benefit.”
- However, this scheme is currently limited to domestic consumers, with commercial and government establishments excluded from this scheme.
Consumers can pay their bills by entering their KNO (consumer number) on the Delhi Jal Board’s website, which now generates bills automatically, news agency PTI reported. Alternatively, payments can be made at any of the two DJB zonal offices located in each assembly constituency.

Delhi Jal Board Hit Post-Covid-19 Pandemic
As per the data from Delhi Jal Board (DJB), nearly 16 lakh out of 27 lakh registered consumers received inflated water bills in recent years, especially during and after the pandemic. This led many households to stop making payments altogether, impacting the Delhi Jal Board’s revenue.
The Delhi Jal Board’s total outstanding across all consumer categories have reached Rs 87,589 crore, comprising Rs 7,125 crore in principal and a staggering Rs 80,463 crore in accumulated surcharge, news agency PTI reported.
