Delhi Public Works Department (PwD) Minister Parvesh Verma, who took oath as a member of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in the presence of BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj on Tuesday, pledged to solve the water supply issue in the 34 slums in the national capital.

9,000 water connections will be installed: Verma

Verma said, "Today was the first meeting of the NDMC Council after the Delhi elections. A lot of fruitful discussions have taken place. There are 34 slums here where there is a water problem. In the next 6-8 months, 9,000 new water connections will be installed, which will benefit 4,700 people."

NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal was also present on the occasion.

"A committee has been formed to promote renewable energy and make solar panel installation mandatory. They will submit a report on this. There is a proposal for NDMC to purchase cheaper electricity, which will benefit customers," Verma added.

NDMC is asked to address the waterlogging issue: Verma

Verma also said that NDMC gave instructions to solve the waterlogging issue of the national capital.

"We have given instructions regarding the summer action plan to prevent waterlogging. Whether it requires desilting or installing water harvesting machines, desilting work will be carried out," Verma said.

He also assured that NDMC will carry out an encroachment drive to ensure clean roads.

"An encroachment drive will be conducted to ensure clean and clear roads in NDMC. The entire NDMC area will be equipped with CCTV cameras to enhance security for everyone, including women." Verma said.

Last week, Verma inspected the Yamuna cleaning campaign and held a review meeting with officials to assess the progress, discussing future plans.

Verma stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) double-engine government was executing a well-planned roadmap and a concrete action plan for Yamuna's cleaning and conservation. He highlighted that after the BJP's victory in Delhi, the Yamuna cleaning drive was accelerated, leading to the removal of 1,300 metric tons of waste from the river so far.

The minister criticised the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, stating that in the past 10 years, no substantial work was done for Yamuna's cleaning and flood control.
