Delhi Weather Update:  The national capital is set to experience rain in the early hours of Wednesday, as a yellow alert for light to moderate rain is in place. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted scattered light rain in the early hours of July 9, which is expected to continue overnight. Although no further warnings are in place for July 10, light rain is expected to continue until Sunday in the national capital.

“We have mostly been seeing overnight activity. There are chances of some rain in the early hours of Wednesday, and similar spells may occur towards Wednesday night,” said an IMD official. “Though no colour-coded alerts are in place from Thursday onwards, very light scattered showers are expected in the city till Sunday,” it added.

Rain eluded most parts of the national capital on Tuesday, with only a spell of light rain recorded in northwest Delhi’s Mungeshpur. The Mungeshpur station recorded 2mm of rain till 5:30 PM on Tuesday. Apart from Mungeshpur, Safdargunj station recorded 0.5 mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 8:30 AM on July 8.

The maximum temperature hovered around 37 degrees Celsius, which was around normal, and the minimum temperature was recorded at 27.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, a degree below normal. The weather department has predicted a chance of a drop in temperature, with maximum temperature likely to hover around 33-35 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature to remain around 24-26 degrees Celsius.

The air quality remained satisfactory for the 13th straight day. The average air quality index (AQI) stood at 98 (satisfactory levels) on July 8, marginally above the AQI recorded on Monday (85).

The monsoon advanced over the national capital on June 29, nine days earlier than the normal onset. Till 8:30 AM on June 30, 14 mm of rain was recorded in the last 24 hours. However, monsoon rain has mostly been scattered since then in the national capital.
