The Indian Meteorological Department said that parts of Delhi are likely to experience moderate weather for the next five days. The weather department predicted thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with a speed of 40-60 kmph in several places.

In parts of Delhi-NCR, temperatures will remain the same for the next 24 hours. Maximum temperatures are expected to be around 38 degrees Celsius. The IMD said that Delhi will be partly cloudy on Friday.

On Thursday (May 7), Delhi recorded a temperature of 33.6 degrees Celsius. According to the IMD, the minimum temperature in Delhi-NCR on Friday (May 8) is expected to be between 19 and 21 degrees Celsius, and the maximum temperature is expected to be between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius. The sky is expected to be clear; however, the city might experience gusty winds in the late evening. Wind speeds are expected to be 15-20 km/h, with gusts likely to increase.

IMD Advises Caution

The weather department forecasted that Delhi will experience partly cloudy and partly sunny weather on Friday. However, given the fluctuating weather in Delhi-NCR, the Meteorological Department has advised people to take some precautions. 

Persistent dry winds and low humidity levels could increase the risk of dehydration. Doctors are advising people to drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, and minimise their exposure to the sun. Temperatures are projected to reach up to 39 degrees Celsius in the coming days, raising the likelihood of heatwave-like conditions developing.

According to an IMD report, the scorching heat could take a more severe turn starting May 9. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius on May 9, while it is likely to climb to 39 degrees Celsius on May 10 and 11.

Even as light clouds are expected on May 11 and 12, this is not anticipated to provide any significant relief from the heat. Humidity levels could rise to between 40 and 45 percent, making the weather feel increasingly muggy and uncomfortable. Weather experts believe that if temperatures continue to rise at this pace, a heatwave alert may soon be issued for the Delhi-NCR region. Consequently, residents are advised to exercise extreme caution over the next five days.

The changing weather may increase health problems for children, the elderly, and those suffering from chronic illnesses. Furthermore, considering the heat, people are advised to wear light and loose cotton clothing.

Delhi AQI

The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi is 160, which implies the air quality is moderate. The CPCB classifies air quality as “moderate” when the AQI is between 101 and 200, “poor” between 201 and 300, and “very poor” between 301 and 400. Beyond 400, air quality is termed "severe."
