Delhi Weather Update: Delhi's minimum temperature increased slightly to 9 degrees Celsius on Friday, which is usual for this time of year. A day before, it was 4.5°C, the lowest it had been in December in three years.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the spike in minimum temperature was a fairly confined phenomenon, with most portions of northwest India experiencing no notable change in the recent 24 hours.
“The rise in minimum temperatures is quite localised and can be attributed to variable wind conditions. Minimum temperatures have not shown any significant change over most parts of northwest India,” said an IMD official.
It also stated that the temperature has increased by more than 2 degrees Celsius only in isolated areas including Patiala, Karnal, Rohtak, Delhi, Sikar, Alwar and Phalodi.
"A rise of more than 3°C in minimum temperature has occurred only over Sikar, Rohtak, Phalodi, and Safdarjung over the entire Northwest India plains," the official said, adding that no station in Delhi reported cold wave conditions.

The IMD issued a yellow advisory for Friday, expecting that coldwave conditions will persist in Delhi NCR, with a minimum temperature of around 4°C.
According to Mahesh Palawat, vice president of Skymet Meteorology, persistent northwesterly winds are continuously flowing into Delhi NCR and will remain throughout the weekend.
“There can be fluctuation in temperature during such spells, generally when winds become calm. This can happen at night-time”, he said.
Prior to Wednesday, Delhi had not experienced a lower minimum temperature in December since December 20, 2021, when it was 3.2°C. For comparison, it was cooler in Delhi on Thursday than in well-known hill towns like Mussoorie (6.9°C) and Shimla (5°C).
