Delhi Weather Update: The national capital will see its second smog episode in November. Following a one or two-day drop, the AQI has begun to rise again. The weather agency has also issued a yellow warning for severe fog on November 28 and 29.
After November 13-14, fog and pollutants can also combine to cause haze outbreaks.
It is also worth noting that this November may be the most polluted month of the decade. Since the AQI measurement began in 2015, November 2024 has seen the highest level of air pollution. Until now, the most polluted November occurred in 2021. The average AQI for November was 376.
The average AQI on November 23, 2024, reached 388. Pollution is projected to worsen during the remaining part of the month. According to the estimate, the AQI will remain in the "very poor" or "severe" category for the entire month.

Dr Dipankar Saha, former Additional Director of CPCB, claims that November is similarly dry after October. There has not been one day of rain, and the soil has dried out. Dust and soil are blowing in the breeze. Smoke from stubble is also reaching Delhi. Apart from that, the drop in temperature and fog are becoming an issue. When all of these factors are considered, this month's situation is really poor.
This has led to the AQI being 'very poor' for 17 days and 'severe' for 8 days over the 25 days of November. 'Poor' level pollution has not occurred on any of the days so far. In the nine years between 2015 and 2023, this has never occurred. Pollution reaches 'poor' levels for two to three days, if not longer, due to rain as well as strong winds. This time, however, there is no indication that it will occur anytime soon.
