Delhi News: Owners of old or deregistered vehicles in Delhi-NCR can now scrap their vehicles from home through a government-registered process. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has authorised 13 Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs) to carry out the scrapping of end-of-life vehicles. These RVSF units, although based in neighbouring states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, are providing doorstep service to Delhi residents.

How To Scrap Your Vehicle Step-By-Step:

1. Visit the Official Website: Go to the government portal: https://vscrap.parivahan.gov.in

2. Select an RVSF Unit: Choose an authorised scrapping unit from the available list.

3. Enter Vehicle Details: Fill in the required information, including registration number and necessary documents.

4. Upload Vehicle Photo (Optional): You may upload a photo of the vehicle to get an estimated price.

5. Confirm Your Booking: Once details are submitted, confirm your request.

6. Vehicle Pickup from Home: The selected company will collect the vehicle from your location.

7. Receive Scrapping Certificate: After scrapping, the company will issue an official certificate.

Vehicle Rates Are Fixed by the Government

The prices for scrapping are decided by the Central Government. Registered scrapping companies follow this fixed rate list. Users can send a photo to receive a quote. However, some vehicle owners have claimed these rates are lower than open market prices.

No Scrap Licences Issued in Delhi

Due to environmental restrictions, scrap facilities are not allowed to operate within Delhi. Around four years ago, the Delhi government cancelled the licences of eight such firms. As per new rules, scrap dealers must have their workshop in the same state where they are licensed. This is why only Haryana and Uttar Pradesh-based RVSFs are currently handling vehicle scrapping for Delhi residents.

Contact Details Available Online

Although the scrapping companies are not based in Delhi, they maintain offices in the city. Their contact numbers are listed on the government portal and they can also be reached over the phone for queries or assistance.

Alternative: Register Vehicle in Another State

Old vehicles that are no longer allowed to run in Delhi can be registered in other states where they are still permitted. A Transport Department official confirmed that vehicle owners can apply for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and the department will issue it for transfer to another state.
