The 12-member group had started from Gangotri on October 27, hoping to complete the trek in two days. Things took a bad turn when an avalanche split the team and eight people went missing. Four members of the support team managed to return to Gangotri on October 30 and informed the authorities after they could not reconnect with the others. SDRF Commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi said the bad weather in the area is making it hard for the rescue teams to search.
