Udaipur Stabbing:  Devraj, the class 10 student of a Udaipur government school, who was brutally stabbed by a fellow student died during treatment in a city hospital on Monday. In the wake of the sensitivity of the crime, the District Collector, SP and other senior officials reached the hospital to take stock of the situation. Meanwhile, a massive police force was deployed in the area to deter any untoward incident, a report stated.

Earlier, the knife attack on Devraj triggered a row which culminated in violence due to the inter-religious nature of the crime. The incident prompted the district administration to impose prohibitory orders in the region and an internet shutdown was also carried out.

Devraj Was Attacked Outside School On Aug 16

According to a report, victim Devraj and the attacker had a scuffle just outside the school during lunch hours. After a verbal spat, the knife-yielding attacker stabbed Devraj in his thigh multiple times, leaving him badly injured. He was admitted to a nearby hospital on the same day by some of the school teachers, where he remained in the intensive care unit for three days, before succumbing to injuries today.

Father, Accused Minor Arrested

Promptly acting in the communally sensitive case, Udaipur Police had arrested the attacker and his father in connection to the stabbing. Later, a bulldozer action was also launched on their house by the administration as it was allegedly constructed illegally.

Tensions Erupted, Bouts Of Violence Witnessed

Earlier, after the incident came to light, Hindu organisations took to the streets against the incident and called for an agitation. After Hindu organisations gathered in the Madhuban area of the city, the enraged crowd threw stones and set fire to three or four vehicles that were parked in a garage.

Internet Shutdown In Place, Security Amped Up

The administration has enforced Section 144 in the area and imposed a curfew. The administration has also cut off the internet in the area. It is feared that the incident could lead to communal tension. The presence of police forces and senior officials at the site is being closely monitored. Authorities fear that tension could spread, and additional police forces have been called in from nearby police stations.
