Senior BJP leader and former MP Dilip Ghosh has landed in controversy after a heated exchange with a woman protester in West Bengal. During the inauguration of a new road in Kharagpur, Ghosh lost his temper, allegedly threatened to choke a woman, and made remarks that have drawn sharp criticism.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, prompting backlash from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and stirring political tension in the region.
What Led to the Confrontation?
On Friday, Dilip Ghosh visited Ward Number 6 in Kharagpur to inaugurate a newly constructed road. During his visit, a group of local women confronted him, questioning his absence during his tenure as an MP.
One of the protesters asked, "Where were you when we needed you? We never saw you during your term as an MP. Now that the road is complete under our councillor Pradip Sarkar, you have come to inaugurate it?"

Irritated by the questioning, Ghosh accused the women of being TMC supporters and fired back, "I built this road with my money, not your father's money. Go and ask Pradip Sarkar about it."
Heated Exchange Turns Ugly
Despite Ghosh’s aggressive response, the women continued questioning his conduct. When one woman asked if it was appropriate for an MP to speak that way, Ghosh escalated the situation further by saying, "I will bring up your fourteen generations. Don't scream—I will choke you."
He also claimed that he had funded the road project from his MPLAD (Member of Parliament Local Area Development) fund and dismissed the protesters as "Trinamool’s dogs."
The heated argument soon led to chaos. As the confrontation intensified, police from the nearby Kharagpur Town police station arrived to control the situation. By the time the authorities arrived, the women had surrounded Ghosh’s car, and some reportedly tried to hit it, forcing him to leave the area.

Ghosh Blames TMC for Orchestrating the Protest
Later, speaking to the media, Ghosh alleged that the protest was staged by the TMC. He said, "These are opportunists barking for Rs 500 under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme. Those who bark, Dilip Ghosh will bring up their father."
He defended his role in the road construction, stating, "I worked on this road using MPLAD funds sanctioned during my tenure. I went to inaugurate it, but the TMC councillor sent these women to protest. Even now, the Kharagpur municipality is blocking many of my funded projects."
In a social media post, Ghosh claimed the road was built at a cost of Rs 2.6 lakh and argued that the project would benefit residents living in the low-lying area.
