‘Was She Unaware..?’: What Dilip Ghosh Said On Chandrima Bhattacharya's Exit From TMC Amid Political Crisis

A day after Chandrima Bhattacharya's resignation from all posts, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh claimed that the massive exodus of members indicates that "Trinamool Congress" no longer exists. Questioning Bhattacharya's role as the former minister, Ghosh asked why the situation in Bengal was "dire" during her tenure.

Ghosh Lashes Out

"A wave of resignations has begun within the TMC. This trend will continue because, in reality, their party no longer exists. Chandrima Bhattacharya served as finance minister for so many years; was she unaware of the budget? Was the budget prepared without consulting her? "Why did this happen?" Ghosh claimed.

Following this, the BJP minister launched a scathing attack on former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding budget preparations. He claimed that Banerjee said that she prepared the state budget on a treadmill. Calling it as a "madness", Ghosted stated it to be exact reason as to why the situation in Bengal is "so dire".

The BJP Minister slammed Bhattacharya on switching sides after the TMC lost power. "Why didn't she raise her voice earlier? People elected and sent you there. If work wasn't getting done, why didn't you say anything back then? ," he added.

Chandrima's Resignation

Chandrima Bhattacharya resigned from all posts on Saturday. In the resignation letter to Mamata, Bhattacharya stated that she had stepped down from all organisational responsibility, including her role as the party's signing authority.

The development comes at a time when the TMC is going through a major political crisis after its crushing defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections. Earlier, prominent leaders such as Sukhendu Sekhar Roy (Rajya Sabha member), Sushmita Dev (Rajya Sabha member), Prakash Chik Baraik (Rajya Sabha member), and Ritabrata Banerjee had also submitted their resignations to the former Chief Minister, who headed the state for the last 15 years.

Rebel Faction Deepened Crisis

The TMC crisis further deepened as the party faced a collapse in its internal solidarity. The conflict consequently led to a faction which claimed itself to be "Ashol/Real TMC".

The faction is headed by expelled leader Ritabrata Banerjee. The faction claims the backing of nearly 65 of the party's 80 MLAs and asserts control over a large number of municipal councillors. The rebel camp held a special organisational session, appointed MLA Arup Roy as their chairperson, and installed Ritabrata Banerjee as the leader of the opposition in the assembly. On July 3, the faction seized control of the party's operational headquarters off the EM Bypass in Kolkata.
