Not long after the incident, a person claiming ties to the Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar gang took responsibility for the shooting. He alleged it was in response to comments made by Khushboo Patani, Disha Patani’s sister about spiritual figures Sant Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya.

The fatal encounter on Wednesday was carried out through a coordinated effort involving the Delhi Police, Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Task Force (STF), and the Haryana STF.
