Assam government on Tuesday announced a 4 per cent hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees. The decision was taken in a Cabinet Meeting called by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Sarma took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce the government’s decision. “As a Deepawali gift, the state cabinet has approved a 4% Dearness Allowance (DA) for our state government employees. With this increase, the total DA for state government employees in Assam now stands at 46%,” he wrote.

With this latest hike, the total DA for state government employees in Assam rises to an impressive 46 per cent, in commensurate with Central government employees.
Several other key decisions were taken in the weekly Cabinet meeting of the government. On the occasion of National Cancer Awareness Day, the government will release over Rs 135 crore for constructing 10 Cancer Care Hospitals across the state. The same amount will be released for government hospitals under the Free Drugs Scheme to purchase essential drugs. This program is designed to provide crucial pharmaceuticals, surgical items, consumables, and linens at no cost to patients, strengthening healthcare support to those in need.
In the Cabinet meeting, the decision to allocate land to over 2,000 landless indigenous families has also been made. Also, the government has added three eggs a week for children under the Midday Meal scheme in the Char and Chapori areas. Starting from December 1, 2023, eligible children in these areas will receive this valuable source of protein, vitamins, and minerals, with the aim of combating malnutrition and promoting healthy growth.
