Diwali-Chhath Special Train: In a significant development, the Union Cabinet convened a meeting today and made several key decisions. With a focus on rail passengers, the government has decided to operate 12,000 special trains during the festive season of Diwali and Chhath Puja.
These special trains will be run across the country to accommodate the rush of passengers during this period.
In addition to this, the Cabinet meeting also approved four new railway projects, which are expected to be completed within the next 3-5 years. This was announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during a briefing on the Cabinet's decisions.

India Becomes Second-Largest Goods Carrier, Surpassing America
Vaishnaw said that India has now surpassed the United States to become the second-largest goods carrier in the world. He emphasised that the country has made significant progress in the past decade, with the railways playing a crucial role in this growth.
The Union Minister further elaborated on the four new railway projects that were approved, stating that these projects will enhance the country's rail infrastructure. He mentioned that seven railway corridors currently handle 41 per cent of the total rail traffic, and the government plans to strengthen these corridors by adding more lanes.
Railways Reducing Logistic Costs
Vaishnaw also emphasised the importance of railways in reducing logistics costs and promoting economic growth. He noted that countries like India, with large populations and economies, have focused on developing their rail networks as it is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective mode of transportation.
With these new initiatives, the government aims to improve the efficiency and capacity of the railways, which will have a positive impact on the country's economy and the lives of millions of passengers.
