Dry Day News: As the ten-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival approaches its end, several cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi and Pune, have implemented restrictions on alcohol sales. This measure aims to promote public safety and ensure peace during the Ganesh Visarjan and related processions.

In Bengaluru, City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda has enforced a temporary ban on alcohol sales from September 14 to 16. This prohibition covers bars, restaurants, wine shops, pubs and Mysore Sales International Limited (MSIL) outlets. However, establishments with CL-4 (clubs) and CL-6A (star hotels) licenses are exempt. In East and North East Bengaluru, liquor sales are prohibited for a full 24 hours, from 6 AM on September 14 to 6 AM on September 16. Areas affected include Commercial Street, Bharati Nagar, Shivajinagar and Pulakeshinagar.

Hyderabad Dry Day

Similarly, in Hyderabad, police have announced the closure of all wine and toddy shops, as well as bars, on September 17 and 18. This decision, made by Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, is intended to ensure safety during the final immersions of Ganesh idols. The ban will be in effect from 6 AM on September 17 until 6 PM on September 18. Bars located in hotels and registered clubs will remain open. Officials has been empowered to take action against violators of this order.

Pune Dry Day

In Pune, the district collector has imposed a total ban on alcohol sales in specific areas from September 7 to September 18. This includes restrictions in the jurisdictions of Faraskhana, Vishrambaug, and Khadak police stations.

The festival began on September 7 and will conclude with Ganesh Visarjan on September 17, coinciding with Anant Chaturdashi.
