Durgapur Gangrape: The Durgapur sub-divisional court on Sunday sent three youths accused in the recent gang-rape case to police custody for 10 days. The three arrested were produced before the court, where the judge ordered the accused persons to be remanded in police custody for further investigation.
“West Bengal police on Sunday arrested three accused in connection with the alleged gangrape of a medical student from Odisha in Durgapur,” Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate said. A second-year student of a private medical college was allegedly gangraped in Durgapur.
Earlier in the day, the victim’s father said that his daughter is currently unable to walk and is on bed rest while undergoing medical treatment. Speaking to news agency ANI, he expressed serious concerns over his daughter’s safety in West Bengal and urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to allow her to transfer to Odisha, where the family believes she would be safer.

Here Are The Latest Updates On Durgapur Gangrape Case:
1. Three youths accused of the gang-rape case in West Bengal’s Durgapur were presented before a court on Sunday, which ordered the accused to be remanded in police custody for 10 days.
2. Earlier on Sunday, the West Bengal police arrested the three accused, identified as Seikh Reajuddin, Apu Bauri and Firdos Seikh. The police are looking for two other accused persons and have launched a search operation in this regard.
3. According to police, a second-year student from a private medical college in Odisha was allegedly gang-raped outside the campus on Friday after she went outside with her male friend for dinner.
4. "At 10 PM, her friend called us and said that your daughter had been raped. We live in Jaleshwar. My daughter was studying here. Yesterday, one of her classmates took her out on the pretext of getting something to eat, but when two or three other men arrived, he abandoned her and fled. They raped her... This incident occurred between 8:00 and 9:00 PM.
5. The hostel was far away, and she had come here to eat. The security arrangements are not sufficient... Such a serious incident occurred, but no action has been taken. There is no system here, no response..." the victim’s father told reporters.

6. According to the police, the victim went outside with her male friend for dinner when a group of young men on motorcycles accosted them, chased away the male friend, dragged her to a forest area, raped her and snatched her mobile phone.
7. When the male friend returned with others from the medical college, he found her injured on the ground. She was rushed to a local hospital and is undergoing treatment.
8. “My daughter is in pain. She can't walk right now. She is bedridden. I am concerned about her safety here. They could kill her here any moment. That's why we want to take her back to Odisha. We don't want her to stay in Bengal. She will pursue her education in Odisha,” the victim’s father told reporters.
9. Soon after the incident came to light, the police detained the male friend for questioning and also recovered the victim’s mobile phone.
10. Earlier on Saturday, Deputy Magistrate and SDO Durgapur, Ranjana Roy, said that the victim is in stable condition and her mother is with her.
11. Hitting out at the Odisha government, Mamata Banerjee termed the incident “shocking” and said, “She was studying in a private medical college. Whose responsibility is this? How did she come out at 12.30 at night? The private medical college should take care of its students. It is a forest area."
