Dusssehra Live Updates: Dussehra, also called Vijay Dashmi, is celebrated as the day when Lord Ram killed the demon king Ravan. The day falls on the 10th day of the Shukla paksha (bright half of the lunar month) of Ashwin.
On this day, the Ravan effigies across India are burnt to mark the triumph of good over evil. It holds immense cultural and religious significance. The festival also marks the conclusion of Navratri, when the nation worships nine manifestations of Goddess Durga
In Delhi, rainfall dampened the Vijay Dashmi festivities at multiple events and pandals. The effigies were soaked in rainwater, thereby melting before even being set ablaze.
In Mumbai, the Dussehra rallies are also considered a major political event where Shiv Sena shows its strength. As this year's Dussehra festival is the last one before the upcoming local body polls, it has acquired the central stage for political parties, including both the Shiv Senas, NCP, BJP and Raj Thackeray's MNS.
