External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday addressed the Indian diaspora in Spain, assuring them of the Indian government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of farmers through constructive dialogue in both the cabinet and parliament. Speaking during his interaction with the Indian community, Jaishankar emphasised the complexity of the farmers' issues, stressing that the government remains deeply engaged in finding effective solutions.

“Regarding the issue of farmers... this is a complex topic. The issues involved are not simple. From the government's side, I can assure you that we discuss how to help these people in the cabinet and parliament,” Jaishankar said, highlighting the multifaceted nature of the challenges faced by the farming community.

Jaishankar highlighted the government’s support for farmers through an increased Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. He emphasized that while efforts are being made, the issue can sometimes become politicized. Nonetheless, the government remains committed to prioritizing farmers' welfare.

Dallewal’s Hunger Strike Reaches 50 Days

The statement comes as farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal continues his hunger strike, demanding the Central Government fulfil promises made during the 2021 farmers' agitation. Dallewal has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for talks, raising concerns about his worsening health.

Dallewal entered his 50th day of hunger strike, with 111 farmers set to begin their own fast unto death at the Khanauri border. Dallewal’s health is rapidly deteriorating, as he calls on the Centre to fulfil farmers' demands. Farmer leaders have expressed their willingness to make sacrifices to support Dallewal's cause.
