The Election Commission of India (EC) has instructed the Delhi Police to take action against BJP candidate Parvesh Verma from the New Delhi constituency after allegations from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The directive was issued on Monday, hours after an AAP delegation, including Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, and MP Sanjay Singh, met with the Election Commissioner to demand action against Verma.

AAP has accused the BJP leader of manipulating the voter list in the New Delhi constituency, a key seat in the ongoing assembly elections.

Atishi’s Complaint to the Chief Election Commissioner

AAP leader Atishi has written to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, seeking a meeting to discuss alleged voter list issues in the New Delhi constituency, where Arvind Kejriwal is contesting the assembly elections. This is her second letter in three days, following a similar request on January 5.

Atishi claims there is a "voter scam" in the constituency, alleging that 10% of new voters have been added, while 5.5% have been removed from the electoral roll recently.

The New Delhi constituency is a key battleground, with BJP's Verma running against Kejriwal, who has been the MLA for this seat since 2013 and is contesting for the fourth time.

Cash Distribution Allegations

Kejriwal accused BJP candidate Verma of distributing Rs 1,100 to women in the area, calling it an unethical practice. AAP has filed a complaint with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), alleging cash distribution and money laundering, and has demanded strict action.

Verma denied wrongdoing, saying the money was provided by a social organization, Rashtriya Swabhiman, founded by his late father, and pledged to keep helping women in need.

In the upcoming elections, Congress has fielded Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, from the New Delhi constituency.
