Parvesh Verma Slap Row: The political row over the alleged slapping of AAP worker Sahib Singh during a road inspection in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar has intensified, with police action now being reported against leaders and workers of both sides. In the latest development, an FIR was registered on tuesday against AAP leaders Saurabh Bharadwajand four-time MLA Jarnail Singh from tilak nagar, along with several party workers, over the alleged assault of a Delhi Police head constable and obstruction of his official duties.

The alleged assault on the police officer took place on Monday when AAP leaders accompanied former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal during his visit to the Tilak Nagar area. According to the Delhi Police, the head constable was in plain clothes and recording videos when a group of AAP supporters allegedly surrounded and assaulted him, reported PTI.

The development came as AAP leaders and workers staged a protest outside the Delhi Police Headquarters on Tuesday, demanding an FIR against PWD Minister Parvesh Verma over the alleged slapping of Sahib Singh.

The row began with allegations that AAP worker Sahib Singh was slapped during a road inspection on September 27. Since then, separate complaints and cases have been filed in connection with the incident.

FIR Against AAP Leaders Over Alleged Assault on Policeman

According to the Delhi Police, a head constable deployed in plain clothes was recording a video during Arvind Kejriwal’s visit to Tilak Nagar when a crowd of AAP supporters allegedly surrounded and assaulted him.

An FIR has been registered in connection with the incident, naming AAP leaders Saurabh Bharadwajand Jarnail Singh, along with several AAP workers. The head constable also went through a medical examination.

According to the police, the case has been registered under sections relating to obstructing a government employee from performing official duties and assaulting a government employee.

Case Against AAP MLA Jarnail Singh

Separately, an FIR was registered against AAP MLA Jarnail Singh after a complaint filed by a PWD assistant engineer in connection with the road inspection incident.

Earlier, based on a complaint filed by Sahib Singh, Delhi Police had registered a non-cognisable report against Parvesh Verma under Section 115 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) over the alleged slapping incident.

AAP Leader Detained Outside Delhi Police HQ; Saurabh BharadwajWrites To Commissioner

AAP leaders and workers reached the Delhi Police Headquarters and staged a protest, demanding an FIR against PWD Minister Parvesh Verma over the alleged slapping of Sahib Singh during the road inspection.

Several AAP workers were detained by the police during the protest.

AAP Delhi President Saurabh Bharadwajhas written to the Delhi Police Commissioner seeking registration of an FIR against Parvesh Verma, his associates and several police personnel, including Station House Officer (SHO) Ghanshyam Kishore and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nirmal. The complaint alleged assault, destruction of evidence, death threats, molestation of women protesters and illegal detention.

What Led to Row

On September 27, an argument broke out between Parvesh Verma and AAP MLA Jarnail Singh over the quality of road construction work during an inspection in West Delhi. In a video, Jarnail Singh can be seen removing a portion of the newly laid road surface by hand and questioning its quality.

During the incident, Sahib Singh was recording the proceedings on his mobile phone. In a video that surfaced later, Parvesh Verma can be seen lowering his phone and subsequently slapping him.

Parvesh Verma had said in his defence that AAP workers present at the spot had allegedly made objectionable remarks and abused his family, following which he reacted in anger. He had also alleged that the video was being presented out of context.

Meanwhile, Sahib Singh alleged that he was recording the road inspection when his phone was pushed down and he was slapped. He also filed a complaint with the police.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police has registered a non-cognisable report against Verma under Section 115 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in connection with the alleged slapping incident, while an FIR was registered against AAP MLA Jarnail Singh following a complaint by PWD engineers. Police said multiple complaints related to the incident were being examined.

AAP is demanding an FIR against Parvesh Verma, an FIR has been registered against AAP leaders and workers in connection with the alleged assault of a police officer.

Police are investigating the complaints from both sides, along with videos and other evidence related to the incidents.
