Amid an attempt to cut budget, the US government has decided to cancel funding of millions of dollars for several countries for various purposes. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by businessman Elon Musk on Sunday announced that the US will no longer provide these funds to several countries, including India and Bangladesh.

It announced that the government has decided to cut a $21 million program designed to increase voter turnout in India. Apart from this, the department also decided to scrap $29 million help to strengthen the political landscape of Bangladesh. "US taxpayer dollars were going to be spent on the following items, all of which have been cancelled," DOGE announced.

BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya was quick to react to the post from Elon Musk led department. He pointed out that this was a case of interference in India's electoral process. He was also curious to know that which party got benefit from such funds. "$21M for voter turnout? This definitely is external interference in India's electoral process. Who gains from this? Not the ruling party for sure!" Malviya's post read.

Apart from India and Bangladesh, the US has decided to cut funding to several other countries, including $10M for "Mozambique voluntary medical male circumcision", $9.7M for UC Berkeley to develop "a cohort of Cambodian youth with enterprise driven skills", $2.3M for "strengthening independent voices in Cambodia", $32M to the Prague Civil Society Centre, $14M for "improving public procurement" in Serbia, and $40M for "gender equality and women empowerment hub".

The recent steps from the US government shows its change in policy amid financial crisis in several western countries. Elon Musk, on numerous occasions has mentioned that the US was providing "unnecessary" funds to several countries. He also pointed out that America will go bankrupt if it did not manage its finances well.
