Bollywood actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut's upcoming film 'Emergency' has triggered a row amid concerns arising from the Sikh community against the movies based on real-life events during Indira Gandhi's emergency era. The Delhi unit of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has sent a legal notice to the Central Film Certification Board (CBFC) seeking to stop the release of the film citing its portrayal of historical figures and events, especially those concerned with the Sikh community.

The notice, which was addressed to the top CBFC officials, demanded an immediate revocation of the certificate issued by the cinema regulator, thereby immediately halting the release of the film.

In the notice, the party claimed that the recently released trailer of the film depicts the historical events inaccurately. Signed in the name of Paramjit Singh Sarna, President of the Delhi Unit of SAD, the notice further alleges the depictions in the Emergency movie 2024 misrepresent the Sikh community and promote hatred and social discord.

Sarna argued that such portrayals are misleading, offensive, and damaging to the social fabric of Punjab and the nation as a whole. The notice also accused Ranaut of using the film "Emergency" not to make a genuine political or historical statement against the Congress party, but to target the Sikh community, ANI reported.

Telangana Mulls Ban On Release Of Emergency In State

Meanwhile, the Telangana government is also mulling banning the release of the film in the state owing to the concerns expressed by a delegation of the Sikh community, which met government adviser Mohammad Ali Shabbir on Thursday.
