Emergency Row:  Congress party on Friday slammed the BJP-led union government and Prime Minister Modi over the declaration of June 25 as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas', calling it a 'headline-grabbing exercise by a non-biological PM'. Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Modi over the decision, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused him of imposing an undeclared emergency for 10 years before BJP lost the majority in Lok Sabha in general elections 2024.

Ramesh termed June 4, Lok Sabha elections result day, as 'Modi Mukti Diwas' in response to the centre's decision to declare June 25 as Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas. He said that it was on June 4 that the people of the country handed PM Modi a 'decisive personal, political, and moral defeat'.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh said: "Yet another headline-grabbing exercise in hypocrisy by the non-biological PM who had imposed an undeclared Emergency for ten long years before the people of India handed him a decisive personal, political, and moral defeat on June 4, 2024 - which will go down in history as ModiMukti Diwas."

Hitting at the ideological mentor of BJP, the RSS, Ramesh accused it of rejecting the constitution of India in 1949 as it did not derive inspiration from Manusmriti. The Congress leader further took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "non-biological" speech, saying that "This is a non-biological PM who has subjected the Constitution of India and its principles, values, and institutions to systematic assault."

"This is a non-biological PM whose ideological parivar had rejected the Constitution of India in Nov 1949 because it did not derive inspiration from Manusmriti. This is a non-biological PM for whom democracy means only demo-kursi," says Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on govt to observe June 25, the day Emergency was declared, as Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas," he added in the X post.

Congress allies in the INDIA bloc also joined in the chorus, accusing the BJP government of murdering the Constitution every day for the last 10 years.

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said that while former PM Indira Gandhi had been criticised for her actions, 'years later BJP is trying to divert attention from its anti-people policy, disasters and the bad condition of the country, they are trying to play this old card.'

Matching tone with its ally, the Aam Aadmi Party raked up the issue of Chandigarh mayoral elections.

"Since 2014, the BJP has murdered the Constitution every day. In Chandigarh's mayoral elections, Anil Massi murdered the Constitution. In Delhi, after a 9-year-long fight the Delhi govt got Services under it BJP brought a law and negated the SC order. Constitution was murdered when BJP brought electoral bonds," AAP leader Priyanka Kakkar said.
