A reel claiming to be a speech by India's first Prime Minister, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, is going viral on social media, in which he can be heard warning people about the future of communalism. It is being claimed that Nehru had predicted the alleged communal polarisation in the country long ago. The video is being shared as a direct attack on PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Yogi Adityanath.

Vishvas News investigated the viral post and found the video to be a deepfake. Pt Nehru did not make any such statement, and this video has been created using AI to clone his voice.

What is going viral?

An Instagram handle named 'Baba Shaikh' uploaded a clip on October 12, 2025, in which Pt Nehru can allegedly be heard saying, "Take care of this country, otherwise in 75 years some fool will divide it in the name of religion."

The content of the viral post is reproduced here verbatim. Many users are sharing it, believing it to be true. An archived version of the post can be viewed here.

Investigation

To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we searched the clip of Pt Nehru's statement using Google Lens to verify its authenticity, but could not find the video anywhere on the internet. Similarly, a keyword search using Google Open Search also resulted in Pt Nehru's alleged viral statement not being found anywhere.

To further verify the next stage of our investigation, we contacted our partner, the Deepfake Analysis Unit (DAU), an MCA initiative. We shared the audio used in the viral multimedia with DAU for verification, which verified it using deepfake detection tools. Their investigation confirmed that the audio track was likely to be AI-generated.

AI-detection tool Aurigin.ai, a Swiss deep-tech company with an advanced audio deepfake detection engine, indicated a high probability of the content being AI-generated.

For further verification, we contacted AI expert SK Shahid, who confirmed that the viral video was created using AI technology. If one observes Pt Nehru's lips while speaking, it can be clearly seen that it is not natural.

Lastly, we scanned the Instagram account 'Baba Sheikh', the user who posted the fake post and discovered that this account was created in January 2021 and has one lakh followers.

Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and determined the viral post to be fake. The viral video attributed to India's first Prime Minister, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, is AI-created. Pt Nehru never made such a statement, and this fake video is being shared with the intention of spreading propaganda against PM Modi and the Home Minister.
