Fact Check: A video is going viral on social media showing actress Rani Mukerji scolding journalist Rajdeep Sardesai. It is being claimed that Sardesai questioned her about ‘gaining weight’ after her marriage, leading to her sharp reaction.

Vishvas News found this claim to be false. The viral clip is from the India Today Conclave, where Rani Mukerji was enacting a scene from her film 'Mardaani' and not reacting to any personal questions.

Viral Post

Facebook user Brajesh Singh posted this video on October 4, 2025 (archived link), with the caption, "It's being said that journalist Rajdeep Sardesai asked Rani Mukerji why she gained weight after marriage. So Rani Mukerji scolded him right there like a dog. The video was immediately edited, and this part was not shown."

Investigation

To verify the viral claim, we analysed the video carefully. In the video, Rani Mukerji is seen holding an India Today microphone while sitting on a stage, suggesting the footage is from an India Today event.

We began our investigation and found the complete video uploaded on India Today's YouTube channel on September 26, 2025. It was titled ‘Rani Mukerji and Meeran Chadha Borwankar Exclusive | India Today Conclave Mumbai 2025’. The description stated that the session discussed her career, winning the National Award, and included Meera Chadha Borwankar (the inspiration for the 'Mardaani' series).

In this video, after the 32-minute mark, Rajdeep Sardesai asked Rani Mukerji to act out a scene from her film 'Mardaani'. Sardesai suggested, "I will act like a goon, and you show us a scene playing the police officer from 'Mardaani'." The viral clip is the subsequent dramatic acting sequence, where Mukerji, in character as the police officer, delivers this dialogue.

In the entire video, Sardesai did not ask any personal questions about her weight gain after marriage.

Sardesai also confirmed that the video shows Rani performing a scene from ‘Mardaani’ at the India Today Conclave.

Brajesh Singh, the user who shared the viral post with the false claim, has over 3000 followers on Facebook.

Conclusion: Vishvas News's investigation found the claim that Rani Mukerji scolded journalist Rajdeep Sardesai over a personal question to be fake. The viral video clip showing the confrontation was actually a part of the actress enacting a scene from her film 'Mardaani' during the India Today Conclave. The viral claim is baseless.
