Fact Check: Viral Clip Of Mukesh Ambani Talking About Diabetes Is AI-Generated

Fact Check: A video claiming to show Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, discussing how to overcome diabetes is viral on social media. In the clip, Ambani appears to share health advice related to the condition. However, our fact-check revealed that the video is fake. The visuals may be real, but the audio has been digitally manipulated using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

What is viral?

The Facebook user named Axel Powlowski shared the viral video on April 9, 2025 (archive link), where Mukesh Ambani can purportedly be heard saying, "Hourly fluctuations in sugar levels drain your energy, and diabetic weight gain feels like a lifelong prison. But imagine if you open your fridge and find the one thing that can cure diabetes forever. Believe me, if you don’t watch this video until the end, you will regret it. Remember the days when you could eat anything, looked 10 years younger, and didn’t know what a glucometer was? Back then, your pancreas naturally regulated your blood sugar. Investigation

To begin our investigation, we reverse images searched the keyframes of the viral clip on Google Lens. We found this full video uploaded on Reliance's official YouTube channel, Reliance Updates, on December 15, 2020. The video opens with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, followed by Mukesh Ambani. After the 4-minute mark, the segment seen in the viral clip appears. In the video, Ambani discusses digital India and the COVID-19 situation, and there is no mention of diabetes anywhere in the video. The video description states: "Sh Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Ltd, and Sh Mark Zuckerberg, Chairman and CEO, Facebook share their excitement about India, and how digital can accelerate economic progress."

We also found this full video on CNN-News18’s official YouTube channel,  uploaded on December 15, 2020. The description read, "Watch Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in an EXCLUSIVE conversation with RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani on India's digital dream and shaping India's growth amid a pandemic and how Facebook is fuelling this growth."

We contacted the Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU), an initiative of the Misinformation Combat Alliance, to verify the viral clip. DAU's experts analysed the video using multiple AI-based tools to check the audio and shared the following key findings.

Hive AI: Detected the entire audio track as AI-generated, with a confidence score exceeding 0.99.

Deepfake-O-Meter: Out of several classifiers used, only two gave high-confidence scores, while the rest showed low reliability.

ElevenLabs Speech Classifier: The analysis suggests the audio was likely generated using this platform.

Hiya: Confirmed that the audio was either generated or significantly modified using AI.
