Fact Check: A video clip of Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi is being widely shared on social media, alleging that he accused the Modi government of not allowing the navy to take military action against Pakistan during 'Operation Sindoor,' which resulted in heavy losses for the Indian Air Force.

Vishvas News investigated the viral video and found it to be a deepfake. It has been created by Pakistani users as part of a propaganda campaign against India.

What is viral?

Facebook user 'Saira ameen' shared the viral video and wrote, "Indian Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi blames the Modi Government for not giving them permission to inflict any damage due to political reasons, which resulted as heavy losses for the Indian Air Force. ,

Many other users on different social media platforms have shared this video with the same claim.

Investigation

In the viral video, Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi can be heard allegedly saying, "Sir, a few days ago you told the Indian Navy on the deck of Vikrant that Operation Sindoor is not over yet. Next time if required, the opening may be done by our Navy. We wanted the government to allow us to fight but the government did not allow us to fight at all and that is why the Indian Air Force had to suffer losses."

This statement in the video contradicts India's official stance on 'Operation Sindoor.' The audio track also does not match the Navy Chief's natural speaking style, raising immediate suspicion.

So we checked the original video, which is available on the official YouTube channel of the Indian Navy.

On 26 August 2025, on the occasion of the induction of warships INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri into the Indian Navy, Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi said, "Sir, a few days ago, you had told the Indian Navy on the deck of Vikrant that Operation Sindoor is not over yet and if needed next time, it is possible that the opening will be done by our Navy only."

He then says, "Today I would like to say that modern and state of the art platforms like Udayagiri and Himgiri make us even more capable of giving the opening knock out punch to the enemy." While in the viral video, he can be heard saying, "We wanted the government to allow us to fight but the government did not allow us to fight at all and that is why the Indian Air Force had to suffer losses."

It is clear that a portion of the Navy Chief's speech has been altered using an audio clone of his voice. We used deepfake detection tools to confirm audio manipulation or tampering.

Deepfake Detection

We checked this video with the help of the University of Buffalo’s Deepfake-O-Meter and almost all of its indicators confirmed the highest probability of AI manipulation in this video.

The analysis report of AVSRDD (2025) detectors confirms the possibility of AI manipulation in this video with about 70 percent. Other detectors also confirm this tampering.

Analysis by the TALL (2023) detector confirms almost 100% probability of AI manipulation in this video. Analysis by DSP-FWA (2019) confirms almost 100% probability of AI manipulation in this video.

Analysis by the XCLIP (2022) detector also confirms a 90 percent probability of AI manipulation in this video.

For further verification, we contacted our partner, Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU), an initiative of MCA. The DAU team analysed the video using other tools, which confirmed that it is likely created by AI.

Analysis by Hive AI Audio Classifier shows that except for the first 10 seconds of audio in the viral video, the rest of the audio has been created with the help of AI.

At the same time, Hiya Deepfake Detector also confirms the possibility of AI manipulation in the video.

It is clear from our investigation that the video going viral is a deepfake.

The Central Government's nodal information agency PIB has also denied the claim made in this video, calling it fake.

The user who shared the viral video with the fake claim is a resident of Pakistan.

Earlier, a similar deepfake video of the Army Chief had gone viral with the claim that he confirmed India had suffered loss of fighter planes and killing of soldiers during 'Operation Sindoor', fact check reports of which can be read here.

Conclusion: The claim that Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi accused the government of stopping military action against Pakistan during 'Operation Sindoor' is false. No such statement was ever made by the Admiral. The video is a piece of propaganda being circulated by Pakistani users.
