Have you ever imagined a wedding without any bride and groom? Yes, you heard it absolutely right. A wedding in which there will be no groom, no bride and no tearful farewells. No drama of relatives and no tension of wedding arrangements. No buzzkill questions like, “When are you getting married beta?” Just a lot of fun, enjoyment, dance, food, and yet a complete wedding vibe.
Nowadays, in metro cities a new trend is emerging, where youngsters, specially Gen Z, attend fake Indian wedding parties with friends, and not with family. The concept of this fake wedding party has been created keeping in mind the fun and enjoyment minus any judgment. The setup looks exactly like a real wedding, but there is no marriage in it.
In cities, like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, these parties are being organised by hotels, clubs and companies, which promise full fun, enjoyment and wedding vibe. Through ticket entry in the party, anyone can attend the wedding party with their group of friends.
How Fake Indian Wedding Trend Started?
According to Financial Express.com, a Delhi-based event agency Jumma Ki Raat popularised a new trend under the name "fake sangeet" which was not just limited to the youth. According to its founder, Sahib Gujral, the number of guests at their events has grown from 300 to 600. He said the concept was based on the idea that people like to dress up and dance in a wedding-like atmosphere, and it has been a success. Now the trend is growing and people are openly expressing their love for the Desi style party. Branded hotels are also organising ticketed concerts, which anyone can attend for a fee.
Wedding Season Is Not A Thing Anymore
Now, to enjoy a wedding, one does not need the wedding season or invitation cards but rather one can go to platforms like Bookmyshow and District app, find a hotel or club with a suitable location where the fake Indian wedding party is taking place, buy an entry ticket for the shagun money and then get ready and go. This fake wedding party concept has saved wedding party lovers, social media content creators and brands as well as hotel or club owners from the losses that occur in the off seasons.
Nikhil Mahajan, Director at Kestone Utsav, a wedding platform by chef Sanjeev Kapoor, says that as these events are designed to be highly instagramable, statistics also support this trend. Organising a medium-scale fake wedding can cost Rs 5-20 lakh, while a large-scale event can cost up to Rs 50 lakh. This cost is often covered by entry passes, sponsorships and brand partnerships.
Impact On Social Media

These events aim to provide the same cultural ambiance and excitement of a wedding, without the financial and emotional pressure of a real wedding.
On social media platforms X and Instagram, many people have embraced this idea. They believe that the idea of a fake Indian wedding party is much better than the monotonous parties at clubs or home weddings.
An instagram user commented on a fake wedding party reel, saying, “More fun and real thing because no toxic uncle unties throwing snide remarks.”
Another instagram user commented, “I mean there is so much stress in the real world that fun is never a part of it, what if fufa gets angry.”
One more user said, "Of course it's going to be fun, I guess we all just want celebrations, ethnic wear, food, and dance. Lots of photos and videos rather than a lifetime partner. It's just to enjoy yourself without being noticed by relatives.”
The concept of fake Indian wedding parties however does not go down well with everyone. There are many people who find this idea to be a mockery and evasion of traditions and cultures. Condemning the idea, they have expressed that fake weddings are a disrespect to the auspicious wedding rituals and values.
