Farmer organisations linked to the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) have ramped up preparations for a foot march to Delhi from the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu Border on December 6. However, the Haryana government is all set to stop farmers at the borders. The Ambala district administration has issued a notice at Shambhu Border, within Punjab’s jurisdiction, stating that Section 144 has been imposed in Ambala. If farmers intend to march in groups, they must seek permission from Delhi Police. The administration has also advised them to inform Ambala authorities if they have received permission.
Despite this, farmer organisations have remained firm on their decision to proceed with the Delhi march. The groups preparing to head to Delhi have been named the ‘Marjivda Jatha’. Farmers in these groups are being asked to fill out an online form.
Tejveer Singh Panjokhra, spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Shaheed Bhagat Singh) Haryana, revealed that farmers filling out the forms are also taking an oath to sacrifice their lives for their demands if necessary.
Farmers have stated that the online forms will ensure transparency in the movement, making it clear that it is a genuine farmer-led protest, not a cover for terrorists or troublemakers. The Marjivda Jatha will be prepared to face any challenge, whether it’s facing bullets, tear gas or rubber bullets from the Haryana Police.
Meanwhile, the Ambala administration's notice urges farmer organisations to inform local police stations if they intend to hold meetings or protests on public roads. If the police believe the protest might disrupt peace, they have the authority to halt it. The administration has appealed to farmer groups to reconsider their plans and seek Delhi Police's permission to avoid disrupting law and order.
Delhi March Gathers Momentum
Farmer organisations have announced the participation of 15 groups in the Delhi march. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher revealed the names of the groups which include, BKU Bahramke, BKU Ekta, BKU Krantikari, BKU Doaba, BKU Shaheed Bhagat Singh Haryana, Kisan Mazdoor Hitkari Sabha, Indian Kisan Mazdoor Morcha Punjab, Azad Kisan Committee Doaba, Indian Farmer Association, Rural Kisan Committee Rajasthan, Rashtriya Kisan Sabha MP Bihar, and Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab.
Pandher emphasised that they had informed the Ambala SP of their plans to march on foot, avoid disrupting traffic and rest wherever necessary. He also clarified that the farmers' attention was solely focused on the Delhi march and they had no plans to disrupt PM Modi’s program scheduled for December 9 in Haryana.
Hunger Strike Continues At Khanauri Border
Meanwhile, at the Khanouri Border in Sangrur district, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal continues his indefinite hunger strike on the ninth day, demanding reforms for farmers. On Wednesday, ADC Patiala Navreet Kaur and SP Yogesh Sharma visited Dallewal to check on his condition. Medical teams have reported that Dallewal's blood pressure and sugar levels are unstable, and he has lost over 8 kilograms. His liver and kidneys are also being affected due to his prolonged fast.
Dallewal welcomed the Vice President’s stance on farmers' demands, stating that they would fight this battle for the future generations of Punjab. He assured that they would continue their struggle until their voices are heard.
