The farmers' protest, which was initiated by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders, entered its 200th day on Saturday. Despite the Supreme Court’s intervention to open borders owing to the inconvenience faced by the daily commuters, the contention between farmers and the government still stands unresolved.

The farmers announced that they will oppose the BJP in the upcoming Haryana Assembly polls.

The Unions announced a nationwide "Rail Roko" protest will be held for two hours on October 3 to demand justice for the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, where several farmers were killed by a speeding car. In addition, a Mahapanchayat will be held in Jind on September 15 and in Pipli on September 22.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher stated that the BJP was frightened due to the Haryana elections because the farmers' movement has become a headache for them. He said both fronts will organise a joint press conference before the Haryana Assembly elections. At this conference, the front's election strategy will be prepared and announced.

Olympian Vinesh Phogat, who attended the farmers' rally in Shambhu and Khanauri with her husband, urged the Centre to address the farmers' issues.

"It has been 200 days since they are sitting here. It is painful to see this. All of them are citizens of this country. Farmers run the country. Nothing is possible without them, not even athletes - if they don't feed us, we won't be able to compete. Many a time we are helpless and can't do anything, we represent the country at such big levels but we can't do anything for our family even when we see them sad. I urge the government to listen. They had admitted their mistake last time, they should fulfil the promises that they made. The country won't progress, if people sit on streets like this," Vinesh Phogat said at the event.
