Haryana-Punjab Sambhu border is now open for traffic after Punjab Police on Wednesday launched an operation to remove protesting farmers. Bulldozers were deployed to remove boulders and temporary settlements. By 7 pm, vehicles were allowed to move in both directions.   

A similar operation has been launched in Khanauri, where farmers have blocked the Haryana-Punjab border. The road remains blocked and has not yet been cleared for traffic. However, it is expected that the road will be reopened for traffic to Haryana by Friday.

Over 1,300 farmers, who were protesting across the state on Thursday against Punjab Police action at the Sambhu border, have been detained. The majority of these protestors were from Faridkot (500) and Sangrur (300) districts. Several groups of farmers also clashed with the police.    

In Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran, farmers set up permanent protest sites outside the DC offices. 

On Thursday, the police and administration worked throughout the day to dismantle the permanent barricades set up by farmers at the Shambhu Border and to clear the National Highway. Meanwhile, Haryana Police continued to break down the heavy cement barricades erected to prevent farmers from entering the state.

By 2 pm, the roads were completely clear. After that, the first vehicle movement started at 4:36 pm on the Rajpura-Ambala lane and later at 7 pm on the Ambala-Rajpura lane.

In Tarn Taran, farmers initially tried to protest at the Usman Toll Plaza, but the police stopped them, after which they set up a permanent protest outside the DC office.

In Jalandhar Cantt, when farmers went to meet the detained farmer leader Jagjeet Singh Dallewal at the PWD Guest House, the police stopped and detained them along the way. Protests also took place in Bathinda, Faridkot, Sangrur, Barnala, Firozpur, Muktsar, Patiala and Fatehgarh.
