Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reacted to the attack against his father, National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah, calling it an assassination attack.
He questioned how the attacker managed to go near him despite Farooq being under Z+ security cover by the National Security Guard (NSG).

In a post on X, Abdullah expressed concern over the attack. He stated that while an assassination attempt was foiled, questions remain about how someone was able to get this close to the former CM, who is being protected by Z+NSG.
"Allah is kind. My father had a very close shave. The details are sketchy at the moment, but what is known is that a man with a loaded pistol was asked to get within range to discharge shot. It was only the close protection team that deflected the shot and ensured that the assassination attempt was foiled. There are more questions than answers at the moment including but not limited to how someone was able to get this close to a Z+ NSG protected former CM," Abdullah wrote on X.

Farooq Abdullah Escapes Assassination Attempt
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, Farooq Abdullah, had a narrow escape from an assassination attempt at a wedding function in Jammu on Wednesday night. The shocking attempt was caught on a CCTV camera.
The footage shows a gunman approaching Farooq from behind and firing a shot at him from very close range.

No One Injured, Accused Taken Into Custody
Advisor to the J&K CM, Nasir Aslam Wani, stated that no one was injured in the incident and the accused has been taken into custody. He was also present at the location when the incident took place. "He (accused) has been taken into custody for now. This is just the start. When the investigation is complete, we will know what it was and what he was looking for," Wani told ANI.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, who was also present at the time of incident, questioned the security lapse. However, he confirmed that no one was injured.
Who Is The Accused?
The accused has been identified as 63-year-old Kamal Singh Jamyal, a resident of Purani Mandi in Jammu. He was taken into custody. According to reports, the accused told police that he had been waiting for an opportunity to target Farooq for the last 20 years. He was found to be in an inebriated state, officials said.

The former CM is reported to be fine and is currently taking a rest. Further investigation into the case is underway.
