Fastag Rule Changes 2025: The Ministry of Road Transport has introduced important changes to Fastag rules, which will come into effect starting today, 17 February 2025. These new regulations aim to improve toll payment systems, reduce delays, and curb fraud. Now, users who delay payments, have low balances, or use blacklisted tags will face additional fines.
Key Changes Under the New Fastag Rules
The new Fastag rules aim to make toll payments smoother and more efficient. Starting today, if a vehicle's Fastag remains inactive for more than 60 minutes before passing through a toll, or stays inactive for up to 10 minutes after passing, the transaction will be automatically rejected.
Additionally, if toll transactions are updated more than 15 minutes after the vehicle passes the toll, users may have to pay extra charges. These new measures are designed to reduce disputes and make the entire toll process more streamlined.
Handling Insufficient Balance and Delayed Transactions
Under the updated National Electronic Toll Collection guidelines, if a user’s Fastag account has insufficient balance, the toll operator will be responsible for the delay. However, if the amount is deducted from the account, users can file a complaint within 15 days of the transaction.

These changes will impact users who delay payments or have blacklisted tags, and are intended to encourage prompt payment and reduce the chances of toll-related issues.
What This Means for Fastag Users?
The new rules are aimed at making toll payments faster and more reliable. If users do not maintain sufficient balance or face delays, they will now be held accountable with fines. These steps are expected to reduce fraud and ensure a smoother toll experience for everyone.
