English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world—it is now a global language that connects cultures, businesses, and communities. Yet, for many, speaking English naturally and confidently can be a challenge. Whether it’s for better jobs, promotions, placements, client interactions, sales, marketing, or any other role, English speaking opens the door to endless career opportunities.

This very struggle with spoken English inspired three college students from Bihar to start EnglishYaari. While in the second year of their engineering at MIT Muzaffarpur, Vikas Gupta (Co-founder), along with his friends Piyush and Sandeep, founded EnglishYaari to help individuals overcome the barriers to English communication. Vikas explained, “Not being able to speak English properly made me feel less confident and shy.”

With a Determination to improve, he started learning English through YouTube videos and also explored some offline coaching centres. Despite his efforts, he couldn’t achieve the fluency he desired. That’s when he realized he was just listening to another but lacked practice. Without regular conversations in English, progress seems impossible.

From personal struggles, Vikas shared his ideas with his friends Piyush and Sandeep. Together, they built a platform where people could practice speaking English in a judgment-free environment. With basic knowledge of website development, Piyush built the first version of the EnglishYaari website in just three days. They started the venture with an initial investment of Rs 1300.

Their journey acts as proof that it doesn’t matter where you come from or which college you graduate from, it’s your efforts and determination that shape your future. Piyush Shekhar, another co-founder, shared, “We grew up in an environment where the focus was always on getting into government jobs. At EnglishYaari our goal is to create something special and break the communication barrier that so many people face.”

Launched in 2021, EnglishYaari has grown to an Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) of Rs 2.5 crore. Today, EnglishYaari has over 100+ expert and certified tutors who help learners enhance their spoken English based on their needs, including business communication, interview preparation, public speaking, and presentation skills and a lot more.

EnglishYaari also collaborates with big companies to provide training to the employees. As a bootstrap startup, EnglishYaari received initial support from the Bihar government in the form of seed funding in 2023, which allowed them to expand their team and improve their technology.

Sandeep Kumar Singh (co-founder), expressed, “English speaking should no longer be considered tough. Our mission is to make learning exciting and give everyone the confidence to express themselves effectively.”

EnglishYaari stands out because of its USP such as Live 1-on-1 Sessions for Personalized tutoring tailored to the learner's learning needs, a Judgment-Free Space for Learners can practice without the fear of being judged, Full flexibility to learners to practice at any time of the day and The app also provides feedback to monitor growth and improvement over time.

The impact has been phenomenal. Over 10,000 working professionals have improved their English fluency with EnglishYaari. What started as a small-town initiative in Bihar has now gained global reach. EnglishYaari isn’t just about learning a language, it’s about enabling people to express their thoughts and ideas to the world.
