Ganderbal Terror Attack: Days after a terror attack at a workers' camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, a CCTV video has surfaced, showing the chilling moments of violence. The footage captures militants armed with American-made M4 carbines and AK-47s as they breach the gates of the camp's mess area along the Srinagar-Leh National Highway.
The police had earlier said that two foreign terrorists were involved in the indiscriminate firing at civilians in which seven people, including six non-local workers and a local doctor lost their lives and four others sustained injuries.
Among the deceased was a doctor from Budgam in Kashmir. In contrast, six others were employed by APCO Infratech, which is engaged in constructing the Z-Morh tunnel on the Srinagar-Sonamarg highway.
They were identified as Dr Shahnawaz Dar, Faheem Nasir, Kaleem, Mohammad Hanif, Shashi Abrol, Anil Shukla and Gurmeet Singh. The unidentified terrorists carried out the attack when the labourers and other personnel working on the tunnel project in Ganderbal's Gund returned to their camp late on October 20.
In the wake of the recent Ganderbal attack, which took place shortly after the formation of Omar Abdullah-led new government in Jammu and Kashmir, there has been widespread condemnation from various political leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Roads and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The attack has prompted a strong response from officials and former Chief Ministers like Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, and Ghulam Nabi Azad. In a show of solidarity, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has sanctioned ex gratia relief for the families of the victims, while APCO Infrastructure has stepped in to provide immediate financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh to support those affected by this tragic incident.
