Mumbai Police imposed restrictions on heavy vehicles and private buses during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations to prevent traffic congestion and blockages on the roads during the festivities from September 19 to 29.
Mumbai Police has shared detailed plans to ensure smooth traffic flow during the celebrations, which include the use of diversions, restricted entry points, and alternative routes. A total of 13,726 police personnel will be stationed across Mumbai during the Ganesh festival.
In addition, a complete ban will be in place on the movement of heavy commercial vehicles and private buses in South Mumbai. As Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations began, a sense of festivity and joy permeated not only Maharashtra but also various parts of the country on Monday.
Devotees in Maharashtra eagerly await the arrival of 'Gajanana' at Ganesh pandals or mandals. Local residents are busy adorning their homes with flowers and rangoli designs, and they are also welcoming Lord Ganesha idols into their homes.
Markets and streets bustled with people making last-minute purchases for the festival, with shopkeepers reporting brisk sales of decorative items, lights, lamps, crockery, and clothing.
Vendors were seen selling garlands, fruits, sweets, and 'Matoli' items like betel nuts, local citrus fruits, coconuts, and incense. Exquisitely crafted Ganesha idols made by artisans and students awaited their placement at mandals ahead of the festival.
