The foundation stone laying ceremony for the Ghaziabad Cricket Stadium is set to take place on Sunday. The ceremony will take place in the presence of Ghaziabad Lok Sabha MP VK Singh and BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla. The stadium will have a seating capacity of 55,000 spectators and will be completed in two years.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Uttar Pradesh government will soon start the construction of a new international cricket stadium in Morti, Ghaziabad. The project, which was proposed in 2014, is led by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA).
The land for the stadium was acquired from farmers with the help of the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA). Meanwhile, the construction was delayed due to a dispute between UPCA and GDA over the floor area ratio (FAR) and the land use of the site.

UPCA wanted a higher FAR and a mixed land use, while GDA allowed only a low FAR and a recreational green land use due to which the project was stuck for a decade. However, after the foundation laying ceremony on March 10, 2024, the stadium with an estimated cost of Rs 450 crore is expected to be completed in around two years.

The new stadium will provide an alternative venue for international matches in the National Capital Region (NCR), which currently has only one such venue, the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. Other grounds in Delhi, such as the Karnail Singh Stadium and the Palam Ground, are used for domestic cricket matches.
