On the evening of January 26, a 37-year-old businessman was killed after an altercation on Arambol Beach in North Goa. The man, identified as Amar Bandekar, got into an argument with a shack worker after Bandekar tried to remove a bench blocking his path during a regular evening walk.

Goa police arrested the shack worker involved in the argument that later surged into a fist fight. “As of now, only one person is found to be involved. If more people are involved, we will take action,” Hindustan Times cited police superintendent Akshat Kaushal.

According to the police superintendent, there were no traces of injuries made by any weapon. “But we will take the expert opinion of doctors. If a weapon was used, we would invoke the appropriate sections,” Kaushal added.

In response to the incident, people raised concerns about safety and conflict management at Goa’s popular beach destinations. Arambol residents demanded action against beach shack operators and their workers.

“On Sunday, when he went for a walk and saw that some benches were blocking the path, he just removed one... Who is responsible for his death,” asked Davendra Prabhudesai, a resident of Arambol. Prabhudesai claimed that Bandekar was a regular evening walker.

In another incident, a 28-year-old tourist from Andhra Pradesh, Bolla Ravi Teja, was killed in a brawl with shack staff in Calangute, Goa. The dispute began when Teja and his friends requested food past the shack's closing time, leading to a confrontation that resulted in Teja being fatally assaulted. Four individuals, including the shack owner, were arrested in connection with this incident.
