Goa Student Dies By Suicide After Viral Littering Video Triggers Social Media Trolling; Police Case Filed

Goa: A tragic incident has come to light from Goa's Mapusa, where a 23-year-old college student allegedly died by suicide after he faced online trolling following a video of him littering on a roadside went viral and attracted police action.

College Student Dies by Suicide

According to a report by NDTV, Samuel de Braganca, a 23-year-old student who lived with his mother and two sisters, had recently completed his second year of graduation. A video allegedly showing him littering on a roadside in North Goa surfaced online.

The clip quickly gained significant traction on social media, with several users demanding strict action against Braganca.

In response, the police registered a case and issued a notice to Braganca. He subsequently appeared before the authorities and cooperated with the investigation.

Braganca, however, died by suicide later. The police stated that he died by suicide using a licensed firearm belonging to his family. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Investigators Probe Sequence Of Events

Police are currently probing the exact circumstances surrounding his death. While authorities have emphasised that no official link has been established between the viral video, the subsequent police action, and his death, investigators are examining the sequence of events that led to his death.

Police are currently speaking to family members, friends and acquaintances. An accidental death case has been registered.

What Family Said?

According to reports, Braganca's family told the police that he had been deeply disturbed after the video went viral. Family members stated that he was under immense stress in the hours leading up to his death due to relentless public criticism and trolling on social media.
