Jagran Correspondent, Amritsar: In a tragic incident, a Class 11 girl reportedly died by suicide after consuming poison at her residence in Punjab’s Amritsar amid allegations of harassment by school authorities over pending fees. She died late Saturday night after undergoing several days of hospital treatment.

The 17-year-old has been identified as Amjot Kaur Aulakh, a student of Disciplined Disciple International School near Fatehgarh Churian.

According to family members, they alleged that their daughter was repeatedly harassed by the school authorities over pending fees amounting to Rs 20,000, causing her severe stress and humiliation.

The deceased’s mother, Sarabjeet Kaur, said the student was summoned by school authorities on May 22. She alleged that her daughter was humiliated in front of the principal and other staff members over the fee issue. The family claims the incident left the girl mentally distressed.

Later, she allegedly consumed poison. An FIR has also been registered in connection with the matter.

Education Department Seeks Written Reply From School Management

As per our Jagran Correspondent, following the suicide, the Education Department has begun taking action against the school management. Teams from the District Education Department visited the DDI School campus on Monday and Tuesday but returned without receiving any response.

The team, led by District Education Officer (Secondary) Rajesh Kumar and Deputy District Education Officer Rajesh Khanna, visited the school on both days. During the visit, the school gate and classrooms were found locked.

No representative of the school management was available for discussion with department officials. The Amritsar Education Department has written to the DDI School management seeking a response regarding the student’s death, but no reply has been received so far.

Punjab Minister Reacts to Student’s Death

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains reacted to the alleged suicide and assured the family that the “strictest action” would be taken against those responsible.

In a video posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Bains said, “It is very sad news that a 17-year-old girl has committed suicide, and she alleges that the school harassed her. It is due to various reasons like not paying fees or other reasons. Taking it very seriously, we have registered an FIR for abetment to suicide, and the strictest action has been taken against the school authorities, plus whoever is involved."
