Divisional Railway Manager of the North-Eastern Railway Aditya Kumar on Friday informed that around 800 railway personnel were engaged in carrying out the repair work after the derailment of eight coaches of Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express near Uttar Pradesh's Gonda on July 18. At least three people were killed and 34 others were injured in the incident. The incident took place at nearly 2:30 pm and it comes a month after at least nine people were killed and several others injured after a goods train rammed into a Kolkata-bound stationary train in West Bengal’s Darjeeling.

"Around 800 railway personnel are carrying out restoration work and the work is likely to be completed by this evening. Trains are running on diverted routes. The upline will be repaired soon and trains will start arriving on it," said Aditya Kumar, as quoted by news agency ANI.

The CPRO of Northeast Railway, Pankaj Kumar Singh, said that train operations will start on the up-line soon.

"The coaches that derailed on the down line have been removed...Restoration work is going on at a fast pace. More than 800 workers are working there. Many machines are also working there. Train operations will be started on the up-line soon. Three people have died in the accident. We are continuously diverting trains," he said.

The General Manager of North Eastern Railways, Saumya Mathur, also stated that the restoration work is underway, adding that within a few hours, the upline will be restored.

"The restoration work is underway. The checking process is being done and within some hours, the upline will be restored. On the second line, you are seeing that the work is underway. We are working to ensure that the entire section gets restored by this evening. According to Railway, 04260 Ayodhya Dham-Mankapur special train running from Ayodhya Dham on July 19, 04257 Mankapur-Ayodhya Dham special train running from Mankapur on July 19, 4258 Ayodhya Dham-Mankapur special train running from Ayodhya Dham on July 19 and 04241 Mankapur-Ayodhya Dham special train running from Mankapur on July 19 are cancelled.

Notably, as many as four to five coaches of the Dibrugarh Express train from the front got derailed. After receiving information, the medical team, along with senior officials from the Lucknow division of NER, rushed to the site.

In addition to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inquiry, a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the rail derailment accident.
